China: The Project of the Century

with Reid Standish and Scott Lucas

Thank you dear listeners!

With this special pod on China and its Project of the Century, we’re now at our 50th episode.

To help me understand what is happening with China, especially after the release of the Human Rights Watch Report "Crimes Against Humanity in Xinjiang," I asked  Reid Standish, editor of China in Eurasia (Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty) and my good friend Prof Scott Lucas (EA Worldview) to come on and we hope you'll enjoy the convo about China’s footprint across the world in their effort to gain great power status, which as Reid has said is “steady but uneven”.

China's Belt And Road Initiative Opens Up Unprecedented Opportunities

Reid is an expert on China, Central Asia, the Caucasus and has had substantial experience in Moscow as well. His knowledge of the region and Scott’s expertise in the Middle East and China help us understand how the Chinese regime maintains its power and influence at home as well as abroad. We take the deep dive in cultural matters, as well as the development of the Belt and Road Initiative and what China's relations are with international powers such as Russia and in the South East Asia region as well as Europe. As Scott and Reid point out, not everything is clear cut or determined when it comes to China: it has its own concerns and challenges to deal with. So listen in to find out what the ‘uneven’ part is all about.

I’d like to thank Davide Cortese, senior researcher for CTP, for his much appreciated dedication to finding all the facts and analysis needed to take on so many of these topics.

I hope you enjoy listening and if you have, pass it along to a friend.

Ciao for now…
Mo
